David Nihill Portland Concert reviews
Shoreline is a bad venue for comedy
David Nihill's show at Shoreline was long awaited by me, but unfortunately, it was the wrong venue for the event. The crowd at the event started to behave obnoxiously once Dave appeared, yelling and hollering each time he paused for a cigarette drag or mid-joke. A particular lady repeatedly stood up and loudly proclaimed "I LOVE YOU DAVE CHAPPELLE!" at least 10 times, with no intervention from the event staff. Other attendees also shouted, disrupting the flow of the set and throwing off the timing of the jokes. Chappelle even had to address the heckling, referencing Hartford and Detroit as a warning to the audience. Despite his usual praise for SF, I sympathized with him for the way the set unfolded.
It's challenging to control such a large crowd in a venue like Shoreline, but the staff made no effort to manage the situation. Chappelle often faces such disturbances, so better preparation was expected. I ended up paying $60 for a show ruined by disruptive audience members. This experience taught me that comedy is better suited for clubs rather than arenas.
